How to Connect Mailchimp With Squarespace and Shopify

If you want to grow your email list, send automated campaigns, and track results easily, connecting Mailchimp with your website or online store is essential. Whether you use SquarespaceShopify, or both, integrating Mailchimp means you can sync your customer data automatically and save hours on admin.

Here’s exactly how to connect Mailchimp with Squarespace and Shopify, step-by-step.

1. Create or Log Into Your Mailchimp Account

Head to Mailchimp.com and log in. If you don’t already have an account, create one. You’ll need at least a Standard plan if you want to use advanced features like A/B testing or multivariate testing.

2. Have Your Website Admin Access Ready

You’ll need full admin access to your Squarespace and/or Shopify site before you start. Without it, you won’t be able to install the integrations or embed sign-up forms.

3. Connecting Mailchimp to Squarespace

  1. In your Squarespace dashboard, go to Settings → Advanced → External API Keys.

  2. In Mailchimp, go to Integrations and find Squarespace.

  3. Follow the prompt to connect; you’ll be asked to log into Squarespace to approve the connection.

  4. Once connected, you can embed Mailchimp sign-up forms directly onto your site, or link existing contact forms to Mailchimp lists.

You can also use Mailchimp’s embedded form code if you prefer a more customised sign-up layout.

4. Connecting Mailchimp to Shopify

  1. In Shopify, go to the Shopify App Store and search for Mailchimp for Shopify.

  2. Click Add App, then log into your Mailchimp account to connect.

  3. Choose the audience list you want new customers or subscribers to be added to.

  4. Approve permissions so Shopify can send order and customer data to Mailchimp.

Once connected, you can create automated emails such as welcome sequences, abandoned cart reminders, and product recommendations. This is especially powerful if you sell regularly through Shopify, as you can track revenue directly from email campaigns.

5. Test Your Integration

After connecting, always run a quick test. Sign up through your Squarespace form or place a test order in Shopify to make sure the subscriber data flows into Mailchimp.

6. Set Up Automations

Now that you’re connected, set up key automations straight away:

  • Welcome email for new subscribers

  • Abandoned cart series for Shopify customers

  • Product follow-up emails or cross-sells

  • Newsletter sign-up confirmations

Mailchimp makes this easy under Automations → Customer Journeys.

7. Keep Your Audience Organised

As you grow, use tags and segments in Mailchimp to keep your audience organised. For example, segment by:

  • Source (Squarespace, Shopify, or other)

  • Customer vs. prospect

  • Purchase history

This will make your campaigns far more targeted and more effective.

8. Check Your Reports

Once campaigns go out, use Mailchimp’s reporting tools to track open rates, click-through rates, and sales. This data tells you what’s working and what needs improving.
